The Challenge

A Legacy Needing Restoration

This truly remarkable property, centered around a stately mansion that creates a stunning clubhouse, had one of the iconic golf courses on Long Island but had let its history determine its present. The dramatic, classical rooms of Pine Hollow suffered from outdated décor and deferred maintenance, which made the property feel stodgy, outdated, and run down. Accordingly, its membership and financial position suffered until the club was acquired by Wilshire Clubs & Resorts in 2021.

The New Stewards of Pine Hollow

Wilshire quickly recognized what makes Pine Hollow a great club experience, and worked quickly in ways big and small to make it shine. Modernizing the décor, Wilshire pulled back the heavy drapes and old upholstery, letting the sophisticated setting with beautiful chandeliers, fireplaces and open views breathe. The addition of new sports, activities, elevated levels of service and fine dining would bring the club in line with the lifestyle and tastes of its membership and their families. Wilshire made sure to pay tribute to Pine Hollow’s legacy, bringing back past culinary highlights and celebrating its signature cocktail.

Transformation

A Respectful Modernization

After holding extensive discussions with the membership, Wilshire quickly put a plan into action to restore the historic mansion that serves as Pine Hollow’s clubhouse. The plan involved reducing the amount of drapes and furniture and creating lively, activated, and inviting rooms that make it feel much like the luxurious private home it once was. On the grounds, investments targeted the golf course and racquets facility, renovating tee boxes and pickleball courts extensively. The club even installed one of the first padel courts on Long Island. Higher levels of service were implemented in the dining facilities, satisfying members’ demand for an elevated culinary experience. Wilshire's grounds crew achieved dramatic improvements to the landscaping and greens, instilling a strong sense of pride among members and staff, thanks to the company's operational experience and simple reorganization.
