The Challenge

An Important Club Facing Decline

In a spectacular setting, The Seawane Club holds a picturesque waterfront location. But prior to its acquisition by Wilshire Clubs & Resorts and a partner, the club was facing operating losses and assessments as construction projects dragged on, fees increased, and assessments piled up in the face of falling membership numbers. Recognizing the need for professional management and expertise, voting members unanimously agreed to enter into an agreement with Wilshire Clubs & Resorts and its partner in a JV structure to own and manage the club in 2019, beginning its revitalization while ensuring its legacy.

Wilshire recognized that the true strength of The Seawane Club lay in the engagement of its membership, new and old. Wilshire and its partner worked to create excitement around new facilities and programming, optimized the golf course’s unique setting, playability, and aesthetics while bringing back magical and memorable elements of the Seawane Club’s past that were unfeasible prior to its acquisition. In using operational efficiency and hospitality best practices, The Seawane Club would embrace its storied past while ensuring a bright future.

Transformation

A New Lease on Life

Wilshire and its partners' substantial investments in The Seawane Club included modernizing facilities and infusing new energy into the club and its membership. A championship golf simulator lounge was added for rainy day sessions or to practice on courses from around the world. Pickleball and Padel courts were added, catering to both new and existing members. Outside, an underused patio was brought to life with a wood-fired pizza oven, with the help of one of Manhattan's best pizza chefs. Operationally, Wilshire introduced modern technology and systems, including digital payment options, while a new management structure improved team morale. Perhaps most importantly, new family-friendly programming increased interest and excitement about the club, helping to attract younger members who will carry the club's traditions to the next generation.
